The newly enstooled Chief of Kyekyewere, a community in the Eastern Region, Okunini Gyebi Kwame Ababio II, says he is ready to wage war on land guard activities in the area.
The community has recorded a number of land guard attacks in recent times, scaring away potential investors.
According to the Chief of the area, he is ready to collaborate with the central government to help curtail the menace.
“When my people go to their farms they are met with stiff opposition from persons suspected to be land guards, and this is worrying. But I am prepared to wage war against this menace. I will meet with the District Security Council to map out strategies to curb this menace. We know those who bring the land guards to our area to operate, and we will put our heads together to make this place safe,” Okunini Gyebi Kwame Ababio told Citi News.
The Chief immediately after his enstoolment also promised to remain committed to the development of Kyekyewere.
“I will establish an ultra-modern market centre here to attract people from all walks of life. This is strategic because we are closer to Accra from here, and we lie by the main Nsawam stretch, so having a market here will open up the economy of this place for business. Since I am an educationist, I will also be an ambassador of education and urge more children to take up schooling and ICT by setting up more schools,” Chief Kyekyewere said.
The Member of Parliament for Ayensuano, Josephine Awuku Ansaa Inkoom on her part, promised to support the chief in the fight against land guard activities and illegal sand winning activities.
“I am aware of some of the issues that happen here in Kyekyewere and I must say I am ready to support the chief to tackle them head-on. I have made an appeal to the Interior Ministry for more men, and in due time we will up our game in the fight against this menace.”
“Let me also applaud the people of Kyekyewere for engaging in a peaceful process to select a traditional leader to lead them. This is because some of these ceremonies have often ended in dispute,” the MP said.
