The health profile of pensioners makes them vulnerable to all kinds of health problems, but due to economic hardships, most of them cannot access the needed medical care.
For this reason, the National Pensioners Association (NPA) has called on all pensioners to join its fold to benefit from the medical fund it has instituted.
Speaking at the official launch of the NPA Medical Fund in Accra on Tuesday, its President, Mr Edward Ameyibor, noted that most of the health-related problems of pensioners were not taken care of by the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).
He urged corporate bodies, society and the government to support the fund.
The NPA Medical Fund, under the patronage of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is intended to complement the NHIS and provide funds to meet the health needs not covered by the NHIS.
Members of the association will be levied an agreed amount monthly to generate revenue for the fund, which will be managed by a special board.
