The Noguchi Memorial Institute for Medical Research (NMIMR) has cleared the backlock of samples being tested for Coronavirus (Covid-19).
The Director General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Patrick Kuma Aboagye, who disclosed this during a press briefing in Accra today, May 5, said, “we have done some 18,000 tests over the weekend to wipe the backlock. “
The Kumasi Center of Collaborative Research (KCCR) however, has a backlock of 1,982 samples, he says.
In a detailed analysis of the latest recorded cases, Dr. Aboagye said of the new Covid-19 figures recorded, 919 were from the routine surveillance whilst 1,685 were from the enhanced contact tracing and testing in Kumasi and Accra.
The number for those mandatorily quarantined remain 115.
He further noted that most of the cases were reported in 24 out of 26 districts in the Greater Accra Region.
Touching on the case management, Dr. Aboagye said 2,402 of the 2719 cases are responding to treatment with seven in moderate to critical condition.
“18 persons have died with 294 recovering from the infection”.
