Dr. Frank Amoakohene delivering his address at Manhyia on Sunday
PRESIDENT JOHN Dramani Mahama will soon travel to Kumasi, the Ashanti Regional capital, to inspect ongoing road projects in the area, it has been announced.
Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister, making the announcement, said the president, as part of the visit, would inspect the ongoing Suame Interchange project.
Addressing a gathering of chiefs and people of Asanteman, with the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, sitting in state, Dr. Amoakohene disclosed that the president has Ashanti Region at heart.
According to him, President Mahama is determined to work assiduously to improve the road network in the Ashanti Region, to help improve the movement of people and goods.
“President John Mahama has asked me to inform Otumfuo that he will personally come to Kumasi this February 2026, and the timely visit is in connection with Kumasi roads.
“The president wants to personally come and inspect the scope of works that have been done on the government road projects, especially the Suame Interchange project.
“This important visit will also enable the president to know what he needs to do to help complete the numerous road projects in the Ashanti Region,” Dr. Amoakohene noted.
According to him, President Mahama, would as part of the ‘Big Push’ programme, construct an Outer Kumasi Ring Road project to help ease traffic flow in Kumasi.
“The Big Push ring road project would start from Ejisu Etia to Juaben, Effiduase, Kwabre, Offinso, Adugyama, Mankranso, Atwima Kwanwoma, Bekwai and end at Ejisu,” he said.
When completed, the minister pointed out, “travellers from the hinterland who have nothing to do in Kumasi would have the luxury of travelling in peace, devoid of road traffic in Kumasi.
“Also, vehicles from Accra to the northern part of Ghana, Burkina Faso and Mali will use this outer ring road so they would not pass through Kumasi and create avoidable traffic.”
Dr. Amoakohene said, “President Mahama has assured to travel to Kumasi this February to personally inspect this ring road project because it’s huge and dear to his heart.”
The National Democratic Congress (NDC) administration, the minister promised, would definitely tackle a lot of the bad roads in the Ashanti Region to improve travelling in Kumasi.
