Two Ledzokuku Schools Win Sachet-To-Treasure Contest

The climax of the programme

 

Two schools in the Ledzokuku Municipality grabbed first and second positions for the Twisco inter-school’s empty sachet collection competition.

The event, dubbed “Twisco Sachet To Treasure” Schools Challenge, saw 82 basic schools in the Greater Accra Region cumulatively collect 306,014 sachets during the first and second phases of the competition.

Lekma 2 Primary scored 47,760 points to win the maiden competition and, for emerging winners, they were presented with a dummy cheque of GH¢100,000 towards a sustainability project.

Another Ledzokuku school, Lekma 5 JHS, scored 33,931 points to place second, while Omanjor M/A 3 Basic School from the Ga North Municipality earned 28,404 points to place third in the competition.

For placing second and third, respectively, Lekma 5 JHS received GH¢75,000 towards a sustainability project, while Omanjor M/A Basic School received GH¢50,000 towards a development project.

Prizes were also presented to individuals with the highest collection per school. The competition was aimed at promoting environmental hygiene by collecting used sachets that would have otherwise been thrown away after use.

The competition, which started as a pilot project in the region with 82 basic schools, began on July 7, 2025, and the participating schools were able to collect a total of 60,516 sachets.

During the second phase, which spanned from October 13 to December 12, 2025, the 50 participating schools were able to collect 245,498 sachets after they had been provided with dustbins.

The Ledzokuku Municipal Director of Education, Mrs. Theresa Tetteh and other senior management members, headteachers and other staff from the municipality were present to grace the occasion.

A dancing competition and fun games featured during the programme.  Some children who could exhibit good dancing prowess received freebies from Promasidor Ghana Limited.
