Kumasi, Oct. 28, GNA – A two-day workshop to increase awareness about accuracy in measurement among manufacturers with the view to raise the quality of local products has ended in Kumasi. The programme, the first metrology workshop to be organized this year for industries in the Ashanti Region, sought to establish a common metrological understanding and frame of reference for the participants in order to facilitate trade and commerce. It was jointly organized by the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) and United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), targeting Quality Control and Laboratory Managers, as well as general manufacturers. Mr. Kwasi Owusu Boadu, Regional Manager of the GSA, illustrated the increasing emphasis on equivalence of measurement and testing services for trade, quality of life and environmental protection. To this end, therefore, the GSA had worked around the clock to put four of its laboratories in good shape to meet international standards. These, he said, include temperature, mass, pressure and the volume laboratories. Other laboratories such as force, electrical, density and viscosity were also at various stages for accreditation. Mr. Boadu urged manufacturers to strive to use appropriately calibrated measuring instruments in industrial processes and practices to mitigate fraud as a result of incorrect measurement. Adhering to the science of measurement, he said, would ensure the provision of high level of product quality, leading to economic and industrial growth. The Regional Manager reminded the participants that the accredited laboratories were available for calibration of their test weights, measure6s, weighing and measuring instruments. GNA...
