Otumfuo Foundation to reward 100 teachers
Kumasi, April 8, GNA The Otumfuo Osei Tutu II Charity Foundation is to reward hard working teachers in deprived communities across the country with prizes. Dr Thomas Agyarko-Poku, the Executive Chairman of the Foundation, in a signed statement, a copy of which was made available to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), said more than 100 beneficiaries have been selected for the special honour. This is fourth time that the Foundation would be recognizing the sacrifices, commitment and dedication of teachers. The event has been scheduled for May 2, at the Manhyia Palace, the seat of the Asante King. The statement said if there was any group in the country deserving of recognition and reward, it should be teachers who had accepted to teach and make a difference in the lives of children in hard-to-reach communities. It made reference to a recent research conducted by the Education Ministry, which showed that there were more teachers than required in the urban and peri-urban communities as the rural communities struggled with numbers. Poor infrastructure, inadequate residential accommodation, bad roads and transportation difficulties are a disincentive to many of them and that is why those who elect to help promote education in those areas should be motivated.GNA
