Accra, March 20, GNA – A Trader, Mohammed Abdallah, on Monday appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for possessing narcotic drugs and forged currency notes.
Mohammed was said to have in his possession quantities of dried leaves suspected to be narcotic drugs for his personal use and forged US$300.00 and 65,000.00 C.F.A notes without authority.
He pleaded not guilty to the charges and was remanded by the court presided over by Mr Aboagye Tandoh to reappear on March 30.
The facts of the case as presented by Police Chief Inspector Kwabena Adu was that the complainants are police officers stationed at James Town, while the accused person, is a trader residing at Old Fadama.
He said on March 11, at about 0300 hours, police officers drawn from the Accra Central Divisional Command conducted a swoop at suspected hubs of drug peddlers and criminals at Old Fadama.
During the swoop, the accused Mohammed Abdallah was arrested in his room and when the room was searched, the police found small quantity of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
Police Chief Inspector Adu told the court that the police also found US$300.00 and 65,000.00 C.F.A, all suspected to be fake currency notes in his room.
He said the accused person claimed ownership of the exhibits. All exhibits are being forwarded for examination.
