Awutu Loye (C/R), March 23, GNA - The chiefs and people of Awutu Loye in the Central Region have called on the Government to put pragmatic measures in place to prevent herdsmen and their cattle from destroying crops in the area.
Nana James Bortey, the Chief of Awutu Loye in the Awutu Senya West District, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that the cattle had destroyed their crops which had resulted in famine in the area.
He said farming was the main occupation of residents and the cattle, when grazing, destroyed the crops.
Nana Bortey said the situation was so alarming that the people might end up losing their farms if the Government did not intervene.
“We will start fighting the herdsmen and their cattle if the Government did not act immediately to bring the condition under control,” he said.
Nana Bortey said the most painful aspect of the matter was that the herdsmen normally attempted to rape women on the way to their farms.
Some residents the GNA spoke to expressed worry of the behaviour of the herdsmen and their cattle and pleaded for the ejection of the herdsmen and their cattle.
