Accra, April 3, GNA - The 2017 Students’ Representative Council Week of JAYEE University College has been launched with an appeal to the Communications Minister to support the college’s online radio with a free to air radio frequency.
Mr Dominic Kojo Blay Junior, the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) President, who made the appeal in Accra on Monday, said: “I want to humbly appeal to the Minister of Communications to support us with a free to air radio frequency.
“Again, our ICT laboratory needs to be stocked with state of the art electronic gadgets to meet the modern status,” he said.
Mr Blay Jnr said: “We as a university are proud of our contribution to the nation’s human capital through the training of high skilled manpower, especially in the field of communication, and I hope this appeal will be given the needed attention.”
Madam Fatimatu Abubakar, the Deputy Communications Director at the Office of the President, speaking on the theme: “The Influence of Communication on the Evolution of Democracy in Ghana,” said communication had played a vital role in the dispensation of Ghana’s democratic crusade.
She said communication, which formed the basis for improving quality of lives in all endeavours, was very important in every democratic state with the media serving as an equally important interactive tool.
Madam Abubakar urged the students to learn what communication was about to enable them to communicate well and be inclusive in all decision making processes of the country.
“It is worth noting that getting the citizens of this land involved in decision making is paramount as their actions help to make leaders accountable, fight corruption and scrutinise the policies of government,” she said.
Madam Abubakar advised students to make input in ways that were legal and contribute to the country’s development by accepting their responsibilities as citizens.
Madam Jochebed Allotey-Pappoe, the Chairperson of the JAYEE University College Alumni, urged graduating students to join the alumni and raise a united force towards the holistic enhancement of the university.
The alumni cut a cake and unveiled the SRC Logo as part of activities of the launch.
The week-long celebration, (April 4 - 9), has women’s day, inter halls soccer competition, talents exhibition, praise night, float, face of JAYEE beauty pageant, and thanksgiving service as some of the major activities.
