Sunyani, April 4, GNA - Dr Kwame Boakye, the immediate past President of the Ghana Institution of Engineers (GhIE), has called on engineering students to develop an interest in the political deliberations of the country.
He said engineers had a significant role to play towards attaining an accelerated national development goal and until they develop an interest in politics, they could not contribute what was expected of them.
Dr Boakye said this when he addressed local and international engineering students at a forum in Sunyani as part of the 2017 engineering week celebration.
The event was held under the theme: “Ghana`s Natural Resources and Sustainable Development-The Role of the Engineer”.
“It will be difficult for the country to develop, if engineers are not contacted in policy formulation and implementation”, he said.
“Ghana is going nowhere without engineers, we have responsibility to play for the rapid development of this nation”, Dr Boakye said.
He said over the years the GHIE has strengthened women in engineering and underscored the need for parents to support their children to pursue engineering as a course.
Dr Boakye also urged interested students to be serious with the study of mathematics and science so that they could easily gain admission to pursue engineering in tertiary institutions.
