Accra, April 18, GNA - Some Ghanaians have indicated that the 103 achievements of the government in hundred days presented by Vice President Alhaji Dr Mohamadu Bawumia as polices rather than achievements.
“Listening to the Vice President as he presented the achievements, I saw them to rather be polices towards achievements.”
Mr Mahmud Mohammed a news vendor who was speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency argued that, the 103 achievements as presented by the Vice President were rather strategies that are been put in place to work towards achievements rather than been achievements.
Mr Samuel Mathew, a lotto Writer said the 100 days period was too insignificant for any government to showcase what they have done and should rather tell Ghanaians things that were in place to turn the economy around.
According to him, Ghanaians had not “felt the effect of the said achievements” so he should “not describe them as achievements but rather as policies.”
He indicated that, the Abolition of the excise duty on petroleum products coupled with the abolition of duties on the importation of spare parts, had not yet reflected in the transport sector since there was an increased in the lorry fares just recently.
A worker at the Ministry of Roads and Highways, who spoke on anonymity, indicated that, though every government had the right to describe “earmarking” as an achievement as compared to “provisions being made”, the real achievement should be tangible to the public.
The Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia at a town hall meeting on Monday said government had recorded at least one achievement a day since the Akufo-Addo-led administration came into power on January 7, 2017 and has made 103 achievements within its first 100 days in office.
Some of the achievements he mentioned included; taxes that were abolished in the budget such as; taxes on excise duty on petroleum, levies imposed on ‘Kayayie’ and religious institutions by local authorities, one per cent special import levy, 17.5 per cent VAT on domestic airline, 17.5 per cent VAT financial services, 17.5 per cent VAT on selected imported medicines that were not manufactured locally and five per cent on real estates and the initiated process to abolish import duty on vehicle spare parts.
