Accra, April 21, GNA – The Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) has named formed various sub-committees, to see the successful implementation of their activities.
In a press statement signed by the Mr. Richard Akpokavie, Secretary General of the GOC, nine sub- committees; Finance, Legal/Constitutional, Anti-Doping, Olympic Solidarity/projects, Medical, National Federation Relations, Media Relations, Events/Programmes and Fund raising, Sponsorship and Marketing have been formed to work in line with the vision of the current administration of the GOC.
According to the release, the Finance committee will advise the GOC Board on financial matters and asset management.
It will also be responsible for the GOC’s budget. They will be chaired by the Ghana Taekwondo Federation (GTF), Mr Frederick Lartey Otu.
The mandate of the legal and constitutional sub-committee is to provide legal expertise to the Board and to give recommendations regarding legal matters whenever needed and is to be chaired by Mr Peter Zwennes, president of the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA).
The Olympic Solidarity and Projects committee will also be chaired by Mr. Richard Akpokavie, the Secretary General of the GOC who will among other things oversee the implementation of all Olympic Solidarity and Commonwealth Games projects.
Mr. Mawuko Afadzinu, the President of the Ghana Table Tennis Association (GTTA) will chair the Fundraising, Sponsorship and Marketing sub-committee. The committee will market the GOC and raise funds from individuals, institutions and corporate Ghana to assist the Olympic movement and the various National Federations.
The Medical sub-committee will be responsible for advising the GOC on all medical issues regarding sports in Ghana and also provide medical and sport science expertise for international games.
The committee will be chaired by Mr. Paul Atchoe, the first Vice President of the GOC.
The National Federations Relations sub-committee has been set up to enhance a smooth and cordial relationship between the GOC Board and the various National Federations. It will be chaired by Rev. Emmanuel Nikoi, the President of the Netball Association of Ghana (NAG).
The Anti-Doping sub-committee is to promote, coordinate and monitor the fight against doping use in Ghana sports.
The Events and Programmes committee will be responsible for the planning of the GOC’s events and programmes.
The sub-committees are made up of a total of sixty people.
