Sunyani, May 5, GNA - Mrs Evelyn Richardson Ama Kumi, the President’s nominee, as the Sunyani Municipal Chief Executive, was on Friday confirmed by the assembly members in overwhelming results.
All the 49 Assembly members present, endorsed Mrs Kumi, who is a lecturer at the Sunyani Technical University, in the election, conducted and supervised by officials of the Electoral Commission.
Prior to voting, Mr Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh, the Brong-Ahafo Regional Minister, Mr Kwasi Asomah-Cheremeh, the Member of Parliament for Sunyani East, and Mr Ansu Kumi, the Presiding Member took turns to address the assembly members.
They appealed to the assembly members to bury their differences and confirm the President’s nominee so that active business could begin at the Assembly.
Mrs Kumi on her part thanked the Assembly members for the confidence they had reposed in her, and expressed appreciation to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo for her nomination.
She told the Assembly members that without their support, she could not initiate and facilitate any development agenda, and pledged her readiness to work with them all for the development of the municipality.
Mrs Kumi also assured the Assembly members that she would operate an open-door policy, and discharge her duties devoid of partisan lines.
Meanwhile, there was tight security at the Sunyani Municipal Assembly hall, the venue of the event, as armed police and military personnel were positioned to maintain law and order.
