Wa, May 5, GNA – Noor Islam, a local development and charity organisation has donated assorted food items and cash worth about 140,000 Ghana Cedis to orphans in the Upper West Region through its Caring for Orphans programme.
The items which included; bags of rice, sugar and cooking oil among others, as well as cash amount ranging from 700 Ghana Cedis and 900 Ghana Cedis benefited about 140 orphans from the ages of five to 10 years.
Mr Alhassan Idrisu, the Director of Noor Islam who handed over the items at a ceremony in Wa said the donation formed part of the efforts of the organisation to support and care for the destitute in the local communities since 2014 when the programe was launched.
He said they had supported the government to accelerate development and to improve the living conditions of the rural dwellers with provision of about 150 boreholes and 80 mosques in some communities in the region since its inception in 2009.
Mr Idrisu also called on all well-meaning Muslims to take development of deprived communities seriously to fulfill the teaching of the Zakat.
Mr Mohammed Abu Najaa, the Northern Sector Director of the Aldiaa Society emphasised that Aldiaa Society was committed to supporting Ghana in her development process and assured the people of the Society’s continuous support to deserving Ghanaians.
He urged the political and religious leaders as well as the civil society leaders not to relent on their efforts in supporting the government in its development agenda.
The ceremony was organised by Aldiaa Society through Noor Islam, a development and charity organisation based in the Upper West Region and with financial support from the Qatar Charity.
