Accra, May 5, GNA - The Strategic Media Monitoring and Advocacy Institute (SMMAI) has offered free media monitoring training to more than 100 final year students of the Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ).
The training forms part of the corporate social responsibility of the SMMAI in helping raise the next generation of data-driven communication practitioners in Ghana to be abreast of modern and scientific trends in media monitoring.
SMMAI is a media monitoring firm that is into advocacy, consultancy services and training.
Mr Tommy O’Dell, the President of SMMAI, walked the students through a practical-based module to equip them with the skills to undertake basic online and print media monitoring and analysis.
He said: “Our studies have shown that many communication practitioners in Ghana are yet to deeply appreciate data-driven communication functions and strategy and, hence, we have embarked on a vigorous advocacy to encourage corporate Ghana to utilise strategic media monitoring.”
Mr O’Dell said the training for undergraduate students of the GIJ was, therefore, to better position them for the job market and strategically equip them for an excelling career in communications.
Miss Paulina Kuranchie, the Head of Public Relations of GIJ, applauded SMMAI and its leadership for the initiative and pioneering spirit to train communication students in modern and scientific trends in media monitoring.
Some of the students who benefitted from the training said it had offered them a competitive advantage over many other communication students in securing jobs after their National Service.
