Adidome (V/R), May 6, GNA – The Central Tongu District Assembly has approved the nomination of Mr Thomas Moor Zonyra, as District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area on Friday at Adidome.
Mr Zonyra secured 38 out of 39 votes cast representing 97 per cent approval.
The nominee needed just 28 votes- 67 per cent to be confirmed.
The event hall, which was packed with people including chiefs and key persons of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), went into jubilations, drumming and dancing after the announcement of the results.
Mr Zonyra, 45, a teacher by profession and a building contractor expressed gratitude to the Assembly members and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for the confidence reposed in him.
He promised to be a servant-leader, run an open-door policy and appealed for support from all.
Dr Archibald Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, thanked the Assembly for the 'sense of responsibility' adding that government would not renege on its promises to the District.
Mr Ebenezer Dzukey, Coordinating Director of the Assembly, in an address, told the members he was “tired in the acting DCE position” because he was not a politician.
