Accra, June 5, GNA - The Basic Education Certificate Examination of the West African Examination Council (WAEC) has commenced and would be conducted throughout the country from Monday June 05, 2017 to Friday, June 09 2017.
Speaking to some of the school authorities at the examination centres, Mr Sam Asiedu Bimpong, a Senior Supervisor of the Holy Trinity Cathedral Senior High School, told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that, there were a total number of 241 candidates from five different schools who would be sitting for the exams under his supervision.
He indicated that, the students were sectioned into eight classrooms with eight invigilators who would help him carry out a smooth process without any examination malpractice.
According to the police officer who was deployed at the centre, Raymond Mensah Agbogah, the “environment of the examination centre is very conducive with the students already seaed calmly awaiting their papers” as at the time of our visit to the school.
At Accra Bishop Girls’, the Chief Supervisor, Mrs Betty Osei, told GNA that, there were a total number of 298 candidates under her supervision with the total students being segmented into nine classrooms with nine invigilators.
At about 0825 hours, she had finished reminding the invigilators of the rules and regulations of WAEC and the bell was tolled for the students to go inside and prepare for the question papers, which was to be presented to them at exactly 0900 hours.
The candidates were starting with the English Language with both papers for the examination to be taken at a sitting without a break.
The total number of candidates that would be sitting for this year’s exams, according to (WAEC), on their official website, was 468,053 candidates.
Out of this, a total number of 241,148 candidates are males, while 226,905 candidates are females.
