The items include bags of gari, rice, and sugar; gallons of cooking oil, packets of mosquito coil and toiletries.
Mr Peter Nimo, the Grand Knight of the society, said the gesture formed part of activities marking the 55th Anniversary celebration of the organisation, which would be climaxed with a thanksgiving service at the Winneba Catholic Parish on Sunday, July 30, 2017.
The donation, he said, also formed part of the group’s social responsibilities through which it had supported the Children’s Ward of the Effutu Municipal Government Hospital and other vulnerable groups.
Mr Nimo, therefore, assured the prison authorities of the group’s continuous support to cater for the inmates.
Mr Augustine Bopam, the Chief Superintendent of the Prison, expressed his appreciation to the donors, saying the gesture had boosted the morale of inmates giving them a sense of belonging in society.
He said the items would be used for their intended purpose and called on other philanthropists to assist as the Government alone could not provide the needs of inmates.
The group later joined the inmates in worship and prayed for God’s protection, strength and wisdom.
