Kumasi, Nov 14, GNA – Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) is to be equipped with high-speed internet as part of the drive to grow more young entrepreneurs.
Madam Angela Mensah-Poku, Director, Vodafone Business Solutions, said the goal was to provide the opportunity for young entrepreneurs, web and mobile phone programmers, and designers to develop their trade.
She broke the news at the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) 55th week celebration held in Kumasi.
The theme chosen for the event was “55 years on, KNUST SRC beyond rhetoric, restoring our values”.
Activities lined up included gospel rock show, entrepreneurship summit, girls’ motivational talk and movie night.
It would be climaxed with a musical concert to feature dance hall artistes - Shatta Wale and Stonebwoy.
Madam Mensah-Poku said “TechHub” – an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) centre at the university would offer IT students the chance to develop viable products.
“We will continue to look for innovative ways to apply our technologies and expertise to the benefit of the youth of Ghana”, she added.
She said their partnership with the SRC was an affirmation of the strong relationship between her company and the university.
Mr. David Dannah, the SRC President, said it was doing everything to keep faith with the students by putting their academic and social welfare at the centre of its activities.
She spoke of support for students from poor homes, struggling to pay their tuition and accommodation fees.
