Accra, March 12, GNA – The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA), has unveiled new uniforms for their staffs and casual workers to differentiate between them and persons engage in illegal activities in the Osu and Awudome cemeteries in Accra.
The staffs are now identified with Khaki uniforms while casual workers, namely (grave diggers and masons) wear reflector vests over their uniforms.
This followed reports on the illegal operations of trespassers which has given rise to criminal activities in the cemeteries which did not promote good relationship between mourners and the staff of AMA.
Mr Joseph Annang, Chief Sexton, who unveiled the new uniforms in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, described the activities of the trespassers as very disturbing, hence the need to identify the AMA staffs in the cemeteries.
“They sometimes pretend to grave diggers or AMA staffs and direct mourners to bury their dead at wrong places, creating confusion and advised the public not to pay any fees to unauthorised persons but channel all enquiries through the sextons when they want bury their corpses”, he said.
He gave an assurance that the AMA would continue to offer the best to its customers who wish to transact business with them.
Mr Prince Otoo at the Awudome Cemetery warned the staffs, especially the casual workers to always wear the uniforms to help identify the trespassers among thems.
He advised them not to allow the sale of food in the cemetery and warned that those who flout the law would be sanctioned.
Mr Samuel Leh, Sexton at the Osu Cemetery, also raised issues about indiscipline and warned the casual workers not to hide behind the uniforms and engage in criminal activities that would create a bad image for the AMA.
