Accra, April 12, GNA - Alhaji Ali Braimah Raji, former chairman of the Ghana League Club Association (GHALCA), has backed the decision by Mr George Afriyie, to contest the next Ghana Football Association (GFA) presidency, saying “he did no wrong in declaring his intention for the seat”.
Mr George Afriyie is the first and only candidate to have publicly declared his interest in becoming the next GFA president, following the decision by the sitting president, Mr Kwesi Nyantakyi to vacate the seat after his tenure expires next year.
But Alhaji Raji who has said, he should “not be ruled out” of the race noted that, it was in the right of any qualified candidate to contest, adding that “George Afriyie has his own strategy.”
“It is the right of everyone who thinks he qualifies for the presidency to contest, so you can’t stop anyone from contesting,” Alhaji Raji told the GNA Sports.
The seasoned football administrator nonetheless added that, he will not be surprised if Mr Nyantakyi changes his mind to contest again in 2019.
“The current FA President is a human being and has every right to change his mind, if he wants to re-run for the presidency and nothing is barring him from doing so.”
