A statement issued by GNPC and copied to the GNA Sports said, ahead of this year’s first Open Championship which takes place at the Tamale Sports Stadium on Sunday, April 29th, Dr Kofi Koduah. Sarpong, the Chief Executive of GNPC had sent a goodwill message to the participants.
Excited about the upcoming event, Dr Sarpong said, “GNPC is proud to be empowering the dreams of youthful Ghanaians once more, to discover their talents to become flagbearers of Ghana.
“We are confident that the successes and opportunities that have come the way of some previous participants, would spur you on to come prepared to join the race to become champions.”
“At GNPC, we believe in the Reward of Merit, and therefore, we are hopeful that you would come prepared to make it to the finals and be rewarded accordingly,” Dr Sarpong added.
He further called on the public to take interest in the competition by trooping to the venues of the championships to cheer participants, who include potential national champions, on to victory.
The statement said four members of Ghana’s team to the recently-held Commonwealth Games in Australia, were previous winners and runners-up in the GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human championships.
It said they included the 2017 Champion, Hor Halutie, who made it to the women’s 100-metres finals at the Games.
GNPC was established by Ghana National Petroleum Corporation Law, 1983, PNDC Law 64 and started operations in 1985. GNPC’s mandate is to undertake the exploration, development, production and disposal of petroleum.

GNPC Ghana’s Fastest Human, 2018 is the sixth edition of the annual athletics competition by Ghana’s Fastest Human, aimed at unearthing sprint talents and developing them to represent Ghana in the 2020 Olympic Games.
The 100-metres competition is held for male and female contestants across age categories of: Under 10, Under 15, Under 18 and Seniors.
This year’s Open Championship competitions would be held across the country as follows: April 29, – Tamale Stadium, Tamale – Upper East, Upper West, and Northern regions; May 26, – Cape Coast – Central and Western regions; June 30, – Paa Joe Park, KNUST for Ashanti and Brong-Ahafo regions.
The rest are July 28, – Legon Stadium in Accra for Greater Accra, Eastern and Volta regional contestants and September 15th – Final of Finals at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.
