The contingent dominated the competition by winning handball, football, table tennis and athletic to emerge overall winners.
Mr Twumasi Barimah, the Director of Sports of the AMA presented the overall best trophy to Mr Mohammed Adjei Sowah, the Chief Executive of AMA.
Mr Barimah said 16 districts took part in the competition and a total number of 170 contingents participated in six sporting disciplines and won four trophies in addition to the best trophy.
He expressed the hope that the AMA team would train hard to maintain its lead in the region.
Mr Sowah congratulated the AMA contingents for their victory and promised to support them to win more trophies for the city.
“Sports is very important for us, it boosts our health and also an opportunity to generate employment. Every effort in reviving sports should be supported and that is why I am very interested in making sure that we revive sports,” he said.
He advised the youth to partake in sports activities especially the lesser known sports as it could breed opportunities.
“This is Accra; this is where football is grown. We had a lot of football parks around were we go to play, but they are now fewer in Accra and we have to look at it again but on the flip side, people are now constructing Astro Turfs so it’s not like it is dead. We should start preparing for next year and possibly start an intra districts to showcase what we have,” he stressed.
“I think next year, we should do better than this. We have to lend our support better than what we did this year because the prospects are there, it’s a breeding ground for young athletes and also an opportunity for you to coach young athletes that can be nurtured for international competition.
“There is so much potential in sports, read your books and balance it with the sports that you are doing,” he said.
