Accra, June 26, GNA - The Privileges Committee of Parliament has begun its enquiry into the alleged contemptuous remarks made about the House by the Member of Parliament (MP) for Assin Central, Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyepong.
He is reported to have spoken badly of the House, terming it as “useless and cheap” and this was referred to the Committee after a report by the Minority Chief Whip, Alhaji Mumbarak Muntaka.
It would be taking evidence from both the witness (Alhaji Muntaka) and the contemnor.
The hearing was originally scheduled to start at midday, on Tuesday, but had to be pushed back to 1400 hours.
Journalists were not allowed to sit in because according to the First Deputy Speaker, Mr. Joseph Osei-Owusu, it was to establish the basis of the report made to the House by Alhaji Muntaka.
The Committee consists of the First Deputy Speaker, who is the Chairperson, and not more than other 30 members.
