Zuarungu (U/E), Aug. 10, GNA - Bolgatanga East District Assembly has endorsed Reverend Emmanuel Abugre Abole with all the votes needed to become the first District Chief Executive (DCE) of the area.
The 14-member Assembly all cast their votes in a first round in favour of the nominee at a confirmation ceremony at Zuarungu, the district capital.
Mr Frank Fuseini Adongo, the Deputy Upper East Regional Minister, called for their cooperation and commitment, and further urged members of the assembly to maintain peace and unity in the area.
He said the Akufo-Addo administration is on course to delivering its social contract with the people of Ghana.
Mr Adongo said government’s commitment to the marginalized and vulnerable groups cannot be questioned adding that payments would be made to beneficiaries under the Livelihood Empowerment Against Poverty Programme (LEAP).
He said one “One beneficiary member of a household will get GH¢64.00, two will get GH¢ 76.00, three GH¢88.00 and four members of a household will receive GH¢106.00.”
The Deputy Minister said one achievement by government was the roll out of the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme adding that government is introducing the Double Track Intake System.
“We are securing $500 million for the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND) to complete all structures that were started in all Senior High Schools. From a figure of over 15,000 beneficiaries, this region will have more than 30,000 SHS students on the programme by September this year,” he said.
Reverend Abole, in his acceptance speech, said “I am greatly honoured by the privilege offered me by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Ghana and with this overwhelming confirmation I would serve the people in the newly created Bolgatanga East District Assembly.”
Rev Abole said “I foresee good things to come in our new District. We need to, however, work to support the President in the implementation of the flagship policies set for the country as in the Planting for Food and Jobs, One District, One Factory; One-Village, One Dam; One Constituency, One Million Dollars; the Free SHS; the National Campaign on Sanitation; the SHS Double Tracking System and many more.”
Present to grace the occasion were Dr Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, the Member of Parliament for the area, NPP regional and constituency executives, government officials, traditional rulers and members of the security services.
