Accra, Aug. 28, GNA - MTN Ghana has donated an amount of GH¢20,000.00 to the Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin educational fund.
The donation is to support the good works of the Okyehene of Akyem Abuakwa in enhancing the education of brilliant but needy students across the country.
The occasion was also used to introduce MNT’s new Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Mr Selorm Adadevor to the Chief and renew the relationship and partnership between the two entities.
Mr Selorm Adadevor told the Ghana News Agency in an interview that being introduced to the Osagyefo was MTN’s tradition of reassuring the Okyehene of their commitment towards the fund.
He said MTN would continue supporting and promoting the enhancement and introduction of new technologies like 4G, insurance network and building relationships and partnership with customers.
The Osagyefo expressed gratitude to MTN and urged them to fulfil the promises of the former CEO which was not completed before he left office.
He said the Network had been supportive of his town whenever they call on them and urged MTN to improve on the quality of their network in the remote areas.
Osagyefo Amoatia Ofori Panin encouraged operators of the Network to create opportunities for Ghanaians to lead the company in the country, saying that, “we must be owners of our airwaves. It seems all networks do not have indigenous owners and that bothers me”.
The Okyehene said he will be celebrating his 20th anniversary on the throne on October 2019 and appealed to the network to support the occasion.
Mr Samuel Koranteng, Corporate Services Executive of MTN Ghana, responding to the requests by the King explained that MTN Ghana gave Ghanaians the privilege to own 35 per cent of the Network a few months ago.
He disclosed that on September 5, they would launch MTN on the Ghana Stock Exchange.
He said it was important to meet Osagyefo because the network operates within his domain and having noticed his contribution towards education, MTN Ghana Foundation saw the need to support the worthy step.
“Osagyefo’s educational fund is a well-established one and we have confidence in it and we know that the fund is administered towards supporting education within his territory and others outside who qualify for assistance”, he said.
