Accra, Aug. 28, GNA - Asylum Down Stars defeated Adabraka Market Stars 5-4 on penalties, to win this year’s Adabraka Homowo Football Gala Competition, played at the Adabraka Methodist School Park.
The match, which formed part of activities marking the celebration of this year’s Homowo Festival and was sponsored by Accra Brewery Limited, saw the champions scoring all their penalty kicks after a 1-1 draw while their opponents scored only two of the p0enalty kicks.
On their way to the finals, Asylum Down defeated Abuja Stars 1-0 and eliminated All Saints 4-0 on penalties, while Market Stars beat Sahara Stars 10-9 on penalties and edged out Harracan Stars 1-0.
Nii Tetteh Adjabeng II, Adabraka Atukpai Mantse who presented the trophy to the winners, commended the teams for their sportsmanship exhibited throughout the competition.
He urged them to desist from all forms of negative tendencies that may ruin their future aspirations.
Nii Adjabeng said he would organize many sporting activities in the community to help bring unity.
Mr Leeford Kpakpo Quarshie, National Democratic Congress (NDC) Constituency Chairman for Clottey Korley, presented a set of jersey and footballs to the winners as his personal contribution to the competition.
He urged them to desist from drug-abuse and other nefarious activities and take the sporting seriously to enable them win laurels for themselves and the nation as a whole.
