Juaso (Ash), Sept. 26, GNA – The Asante-Akim South Municipal Assembly has reactivated its revenue mobilization taskforce as part of efforts to rake in more revenue to fund projects of the assembly.
The reactivation of the taskforce which had been dormant for some time, is one of various strategies being pursued by the assembly to project Internally Generated Funds (IGF) as the assembly’s key source of funding.
Mr. Alexander Frimpong, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who made the announcement, said the assembly was also updating its revenue data base to capture more tax payers while building the capacity of revenue staff.
Addressing the assembly at its meeting at Juaso on Tuesday, Mr. Frimpong underlined the need for the assembly to prioritise its IGF ahead of the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF), the District Development Fund (DDF) and the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFUND).
He said of all the assembly’s sources of funding, it was only the IGF that it had control over, and urged members of the assembly and the revenue staff to up their game to achieve the desired results.
He disclosed that the assembly had collected GH¢391,237.57 out of a target of GH¢605,000.00, representing 64.67 per cent as at August 31, 2018.
This, he said, called for involvement of all stakeholders to improve the situation, adding that, the assembly’s performance in revenue generation over the years left much to be desired.
Touching on road construction, the MCE told the assembly that four road projects including Banka-Amantia, Komeso-Subinso-Kokoben, Bompata Town Roads and the Juaso Presby-Komeso road had been awarded on contract.
On education, the MCE said over 500 SHS students benefitted from a free vacation classes organized by himself and the Member of Parliament, Mr. Kwaku Asante Boateng.
He gave the assurance that the assembly would continue to liaise with all the four Senior High Schools (SHS) in the municipality and provide them with the needed support for the smooth implementation of the free SHS policy.
