Asikasu (E/R), Oct. 19, GNA - The National President of Community Health Nurses Association of Ghana (COHNAG), Ms Esther Frimpong Bamfo, has called on all parents to participate in the National Immunisation Exercise to help protect the children of Ghana.
She encouraged communities to support the health workers with the necessary materials to ensure the success of the exercise.
Ms Bamfo said this during an inspection tour to some communities in the Eastern Region to ascertain the impact of the one-week national Immunization exercise.
This year’s exercise takes place from the 17th to the 22nd of October, 2018.
She was impressed by the progress of the exercise when her team visited communities like Asikasu, Kokoso, Chinto, Kwakyekrom and Adubrakrom within the New Juaben and Nsawam Adoagyiri Municipalities.
She expressed optimism that by the close of the exercise, every community in the Region would have been captured and all children from nine months up to five years would have been immunized against measles and other child killer diseases.
Mr Prince Opoku, a Community Health Worker at Asikasu CHIPS Compound, expressed his joy at how people were patronizing this year's exercise.
He appealed to government to provide them with logistics such as motorcycles, rain coat and financial support to help them reach out to people in the remote areas for them to access quality health care delivery.
Ms Ruth Owusu Amponsah, a Community Health Officer from Kwakyikrom, pleaded to government, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGO’s) and philanthropists, to help build a CHIPS Compound at Adubrakrom to help pregnant women who have to walk about four miles to access healthcare at Kwakyekrom.
