Accra, Oct. 29, GNA – The Rotary Club of Accra Ring Road Central has signed a Memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) to support in preventing insanitary conditions in the metropolis.
Under the partnership, the Club would mount 80 litter bins along the Ring Road from Danquah Circle to Kwame Nkrumah Circle, and ensure the proper use and maintenance of the bins.
Dr Dennis Addo, the President of the Rotary Club of the Accra Ring Road Central in an interview with the Ghana News Agency said the success they chalked through their various health and sanitation services to some communities had influenced them to partner the AMA to assist in waste management in Accra.
He said the vision of President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to make Accra the cleanest city required a change in policy actions, city cleansing approaches and attitudinal change of the people.
Dr Addo gave the assurance that the Club would involve in all AMA sanitation activities and projects and urged other stakeholders to come on board to support in the sensitisation of the public on proper sanitation to ensure clean environment.
Mr Victor Neequaye Kotey, the Waste Management Director of the AMA who signed the MoU said the AMA would liaise with all agencies to ensure that the bins were properly handled to last long and sanitation management was not the responsibility of the government alone and called on private institutions to assist while advising the citizenry to stop littering and dumping of refuse into drains.
He asked the people to conduct their activities in a hygienic environment to avoid the risks of contracting diseases.
Mr Gilbert Nii Ankrah, the Public Relations Officer of the AMA called on the public to be on the alert to prevent unscrupulous people who go round and steal waste bins along the streets of Accra.
