Ho, Oct. 29, GNA - Actionaid Ghana, a Civil Society Organisation (CSO), is mobilising support for the implementation of the African Charter on Democracy, Elections and Governance (ACDEG).
The Charter is a road map that sets out international standards on good governance and democracy on the African continent.
At an engagement meeting with stakeholders in Ho, Mrs Margaret Brew-Ward, Advocacy and Implementation Manager, Actionaid Ghana, said the project known as the EC PANAF was to increase and strengthen the role CSOs played in ensuring that African Union Member States were more democratic and accountable to their citizenry as enshrined in the African Governance Architecture (AGA).
She said they were partnering Actionaid Denmark to promote the operationalisation of AGA and ACDEG to enhance effective governance and democracy with the aim of ensuring sustainable development and equality in Ghana and Africa.
Mrs Brew-Ward said the European Commission was funding the project earmarked for three years and called for support from the media to reach the citizenry.
Dr Archibald Yao Letsa, Volta Regional Minister, said Ghana was a signatory to the Charter and was actively involving citizens in the democratic and development processes through Town Hall meetings in the districts.
