Accra, Oct. 1, GNA - Richmond Osarfo and Christian Amoah, members of the national weightlifting team, would participate in the 84th edition International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) World Championship in Ashgabat, Turkmenistan.
The two weightlifters, who have been camping in the United States of America (USA), under the tutelage of the Technical Director and head coach of the team, Dr Kyle Pierce have since left the states, for the championship at the Ashgabat Olympic Complex, from Thursday, November 1, 2018 to Saturday, November 10, 2018.
Amoah, would compete in the 96kg body weight category, against 45 others, with an entry total of 321kg.
Osarfo, on the other hand would also compete in the 109kg body weight category with a total entry of 350kg as he takes on 37 other athletes from his category.
The IWF expects a record entry of around 650 athletes from 92 nations at the World Championships, the first qualifying event for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
Five other competitions have been approved by the IWF as qualifying events for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
