Accra, Nov. 20, GNA - Africa Union Sports Council (AUSC) has congratulated the Government of Ghana for winning the bid to host the 13th All Africa Games (AAG) in 2023.
Ghana was awarded the hosting rights in October after beating Egypt in the bid process and would for the first time host Africa in various sporting events come 2023.
In a statement signed by Mr Solomon Selcap Dalung, President of AUSC Region Two, said, "this is a giant stride towards fostering Sports Development, Regional Integration and Socio-economic Development for Africa in general and AUSC Region 2 in particular.
"It is very obvious that hosting the African Games would leave behind everlasting legacies for posterity".
Mr. Dalung, who doubles as the Minister for Youth and Sports Development of Nigeria, in the statement also asserted that the hosting of the tournament will help
improve the sporting facilities to the benefit of the upcoming generation.
"Furthermore, the present generation would enjoy the immediate gains of hosting, such as standard sporting facilities and infrastructure for training and competitions as well as the enhancement of quality of life of the citizens,'' he said.
The 2023 All Africa Games would serve as qualifiers for the various disciplines for the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
