The items include wheel chairs, clutches and detergents. The NGO has already spent more than $250,000 on rehabilitation works on the Hospital.
A statement issued to the Ghana News Agency, on Tuesday, said Madam Joyce Williams, a Board member of the NGO, said she was happy the donation would address the specific need of Hospital.
“The support and partnership of the AKK is aimed at placing Rev. FR Arthur Rooney Hospital in the spotlight to address some of its needs and challenges; as well as to attract positive attention and development to it,” she stated.
The statement explained that the Board and their members were moved to assist because of the deplorable nature of the Facility, which in its past better days, many of them benefited from.
“This is a Community that we belong; a community where some of us grew up and had our families here so we have to ensure that things work for the members today,” she said. “We are also here to help in many ways in the health and education sector because we believe that if we improve the community, we improve ourselves together”.
Madam Williams also said that the AKK was committed to complementing the Government’s efforts towards the proper improvement of healthcare delivery in the country, in general.
The statement said Mr. Samuel Arhizi, the Administrator of the Hospital expressed his gratitude to the Association and asked for assistance from all the indigenes of the town.
He said the Hospital, which was built in 1954, had outstripped its infrastructure capacity due to the spontaneous growth in its operations and, therefore, it needed to make adjustments to fill the gap.
He, however, expressed regret that since its founding, it had not witnessed any major transformation, hence the infrastructure deficit.
Mr. Arhizi complained about the lack of accommodation for the staff, saying it was a major problem and called on philanthropists to go to their aid because they had the land available.
“This facility serves as District referral hospital for people from Samreboi, Enchi, Dadieso, Wassa Akropong and other areas, and so the pressure is always on us to the extreme mile,” he stated.
“We need an Ambulance that can help us do more to help the people,” he stressed.
The Administrator noted that the Hospital was often neglected in terms of distribution of equipment because it belonged to a church and, therefore, appealed to the Government to assist them.
The statement said Mr Ernest Kwadwo Abeka, the Board Chairman of the Hospital, expressed his appreciation to AKK and asked the other indigenes of Asankrangwa living abroad to emulate them.
The Asankragwa Kroye Kuo was formed two years ago, and it consists of sons and daughters of Asankragwa living in the United States.
