Sunyani, Dec. 06, GNA - The Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD) has expressed worry over the unfriendly nature of physical infrastructure in the country.
The federation said disability is not inability, hence the need to respect their dignity and uphold their fundamental human rights as well.
Mr. Ebenezer Nsowah, the Brong-Ahafo Regional President of the GFD raised the concern at a durbar to mark the International Disability Day in Sunyani.
It was under the theme “Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Accessibility and Inclusiveness”.
Mr. Nsowah noted with regret that buildings and infrastructures in many of the Municipalities and Districts in the region were not disability friendly and therefore hindered them from active participation in national discourse and decision-making processes.
He said many of the members were productive youth who could use their expertise in various fields to influence decision-making and policy direction but it was unfortunate that existing structures were not favourable to them.
Mr. Nsowah called on the government to create avenues where talents of the disabled could be unearthed and nurtured to make them national assets but not liabilities.
