Tarkwa (W/R), Dec. 10, GNA - The Apinto Divisional Council, over the weekend, organized a clean-up exercise as part of activities for this year's Amankuma festival.
The exercise took place at the Tarkwa main bus terminal, Tarkwa community centre, Cyanide, Tarkwa Na Aboso park and Awudua township.
Unlike previous clean-up exercises, where residents, shop owners and commercial drivers failed to participate, except the security agencies, this time around most residents joined the security agencies to ensure the success of the exercise.
As at 06:00 hours people had already turned up in their numbers to participate in the exercise.
The Tarkwa Nsueam Municipal Assembly provided protective equipment, tools and trucks to cart the waste to the dumping site.
Personnel from the Ghana National Fire Service used their fire tender to clear debris from the gutters at the main bus terminal.
Nana Amankrah Gyeabour II, Kontihene of Apinto Divisional Council, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency, commended the citizens and the security agencies in Tarkwa for coming together to clean the community.
He entreated the citizens to patronise this year's Amankuma festival, which is slated from December 10-16 December.
