Winneba (C/R), Dec. 10, GNA - Mr Christopher Oddoye, Awutu-Effutu-Senya (AES) District Manager of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), has called on service providers to abide by treatment guidelines to minimize the deductions of their monies after vetting.
Mr Oddoye said this at a stakeholder’s engagement meeting held with service providers of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in Awutu-Senya District, Effutu and Awutu Senya Municipality.
The event was held under the theme: “In achieving Universal Health Coverage in NHIA; Awutu-Effutu-Senya experience”.
It was to review activities of the AES District NHIS from January to October 2018 and to receive their suggestions and strategize for the future.
Among the stakeholders who attended the meeting were NHIA personnel from Cape Coast, Effutu Municipal Director of Health Service, Effutu Assembly, Assembly Members, Social Welfare Directors, NCCE Directors and Ghana Education Service staffs from the AES District NHIS catchment areas.
Mr Oddoye called on service providers to ensure that they held periodic engagements with the NHIA and other stakeholders on issues affecting their operations.
He urged the providers to engage the Central Region Claim Processing Personnel of the system to train their claims officers and help reduce errors on vetting reports.
The District Manager said from January-October 2018 the Scheme registered 9,244 fresh members and renewed 79,040 expired cards, totalling 88,284.
Mr Oddoye said the Scheme has a number of challenges which the Authority is vigorously working hard to restore.
He said they have also made some significant achievement such as successive operation of three registration centres (Awutu Bereku, Senya Health and Bawjiase local council areas) and expansion of the Free Maternal Care (FMC) registering 6,138 pregnant women on the programme.
He said though the scheme has suffered financial setbacks with the expansion of the FMC during the period, it has also contributed significantly in the attainment of the MDGS.
He urged members to refrain from accessing health care with their NHIS identity cards on the behalf of relatives and engaging in provider shopping - moving from one health care facility to another with the same ailment.
Mr Oddoye said the NHIA has introduced a programme dubbed, NHIS Mobile Renewal and it will commence from December, 2018 for members to make payment from their Mobile Wallet by dialing x929” short code to either MTN, Vodafone or Airtel-Tigo Networks and to follow the process.
