Tema, Jan 3, GNA - The TDC District Court has directed the Ghana Police Service to send Francis Mugnanla Nabegmado, who allegedly murdered the Assemblies of God pastor, for a psychiatric evaluation.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Joseph Benefo Darkwah, Tema Police Regional Public Affairs, told the Ghana News Agency that the court gave the directive on Wednesday when the 31-year old suspect was put before it.
DSP Darkwah added that Nabegmado would be sent to the Pantang Psychiatric Hospital on Thursday for the medical examination to determine whether he was mentally sound or not.
He added that the suspect whose plea was not taken, was put before the court on a provisional murder charge and was remanded into prison custody to reappear on January 17, 2019.
On Sunday, December 30, 2018, at about 0900 hours, the suspect who was dressed in a black suit and carrying a bag, went to the premises of the Central Assemblies of God at Tema Community Four and attacked the senior pastor, Rev Dr David Nabegmado.
The suspect, who is a nephew of the slain pastor, entered his office while he was preparing for the day’s service and allegedly inflicted cutlass wounds on his hand, stabbed him in the right rib and slit his throat.
The suspect was arrested by church members who handed him over to the Police.
The injured pastor was rushed to the Tema General Hospital where he died.
