Akyem Swedru (E/R), Jan. 15, GNA – The Birim South District Health Director, Ms Stella Konadu Owusu, has lauded the contribution of the People for Health (P4H) project, which seeks to help improve healthcare delivery in the district.
She said the Ghana Health Service (GHS) is doing its best to improve healthcare delivery, however, the contribution of such projects would go a long way to complement its efforts.
Ms Owusu made the remark, when a team from the project implementers, SEND Ghana, paid a visit to her as part of their monitoring exercise.
The purpose of the exercise is to assess the success of the impact of the project in the various communities and plan ahead.
The P4H is a four-year project being implemented by SEND Ghana, the GNA and Penplusbyte, in 125 districts across five regions of the country, with funding from USAID.
The project seeks to educate and promote the rights of the most vulnerable in healthcare, promote the Patients Charter and the code of ethics to enhance better health care delivery in the country.
The project has a goal to promote equity, especially in the disadvantaged communities.
The Chief-of-Party for the People for Health Project and head of SEND –West Africa, Mr Siapha Kamara, said in his interaction with the communities, he observed that the P4H was making some impact, with respect to the Community Health Management Committee’s (CHMC) knowledge and understanding of the patients’ charter and the code of ethics.
He said the CHMC in the communities understood the message of health rights and are gradually demanding quality service as well as knowing their responsibility.
Mr Kamara said in the next two years, more emphasis would be placed on capacity building of the local partners, especially on the Patients Charter, because “once they understand their rights and responsibilities they can demand for it”.
He said the focus of the project is to ensure that after it ends, the beneficiary communities would be able to continue using the patient’s charter and the code of ethics to demand quality healthcare service.
A senior Community Health Nurse at the Asomdwe-Newtown Yarewa CHIPS at Achiase, Ms Josphine Ahenkroh said the unit would adhere to the Patients Charter to help ensure good services to their clients.
As part of the monitoring, the team visited and engaged with residents and health practitioners at the Akenkausu CHIPS, Atomo, Asomdwe-Newtown Yarewa CHIPS and Akim Adiembra.
