Accra, Feb. 18, GNA - The Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mante, Moderator of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana has called on political parties to do away with vigilante groups to demonstrate their commitment to peace.
He described political vigilantism as an abomination and a recipe for militancy and anarchy in the country if left unchecked.
Rev. Prof. Mante was speaking at the dedication of the Christ Congregation of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana at Adenta in Accra on Sunday.
The 1,200 seating capacity edifice, which cost GH¢3.4 million, was constructed to accommodate the growing number of the congregation and the church desire to build modern auditorium with a sound proof system so that the loud noise would not disturb the peace of the residents.
Rev. Prof. Mante said political vigilantism must be stopped immediately, adding that, ‘these political vigilante groups are taking us for granted as a nation. Such groups contributed immensely to this and conflicts that bedevilled other countries and we must not allow them to flourish in this country’’.
The Moderator said most of the people in politics are either Christians or Muslims. So for the sake of the Almighty God that we worship, this vigilante menace must stop and we must not politicise it, he said.
Rev. Prof. Mante commended the congregation for the enormous sacrifices that they had made to make the new building a reality.
Rev. Samuel Nii Klu Nortey, District Minister In-Charge of the Christ Congregation, also commended the consultants, contractors and the project supervisory committee members for their dedication and hard work had made it possible to build the church.
He expressed the hope that members would work harder than before to win more souls for Christ Jesus.
