Accra, Feb. 23, GNA – The presidential primary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has generally been peaceful and smooth across the designated polling stations in the Greater Accra Region.
Voting started at exactly 0700 hours at many of the centres and there has not been any reported nasty incident.
Seven candidates - Mr Goosie Tanoh, former President John Dramani Mahama, Professor Joshua Alabi, Mr Alban Sumana Bagbin, Mr Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, Mr Sylvester Mensah and Alhaji Nurudeen Iddrisu are in the race for the party’s presidential ticket for Election 2020.
Agents of the candidates are present at the polling centres to observe things - to make sure that there is fairness and transparency.
At the Party Headquarters, which has been designated as one of the voting centres, two delegates out of the expected 63, had voted, an hour into the exercise.
Ms Rita Twumasi-Ankrah of the Voter List Reference Office of the Electoral C omission (EC) said everything was well.
At the Dansoman Police station in the Ablekuma West Constituency, Mr Randy Holloway, Presiding Officer, said voting commenced on time.
Out of the 1,119 expected delegates, 145 had voted, when the GNA visited.
He described the turn-out as encouraging.
