Essaman Kakraba (W/R), March 20, GNA - Four people have been killed in a gory motor accident on the Tarkwa-Bogoso Highway in the Western Region.
The accident happened around Sel fuel filling station near Essamang Kakraba in the Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality.
Chief Superintendent Victoria Yamoah, Motor Transport and Traffic Department (MTTD) Commander in charge of Tarkwa Nsuaem told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) that on March 18, 2019, around 1330 hours, the driver Raphael K.A Prempah, 37, was driving a Toyota Land Cruiser with registration number ER 3117-11 went to the Sel fuel filling station along the Tarkwa-Bogoso Highway to purchase fuel.
She said while joining the main road, the suspect driver crashed into an Opel Zafira vehicle with registration number GT 5577-18 which was then driven by Samuel Nkansah, 38, with eight passengers on board.
Chief Superintendent Yamoah said the Opel driver and Wisdom Diznado,18-year-old died on the spot as they were trapped in the vehicle for hours.
Akosua Affumwaah, 65, and Lawrencia Biado,18-year-old student of Fiaseman Senior High School also died shortly on arrival at the Apinto government hospital, she indicated.
The MTTD commander said Samuel Nkansah, Peter Ekow Barnes, 35, Edward Ackon, 60, Eric Adjei Mensah, 38 together with a 6-year-old girl whose name was given as Yaa sustained serious injuries and were admitted at the Tarkwa Municipal hospital for treatment.
She said bodies of the deceased had been deposited at the Apinto government hospital morgue for autopsy.
Chief Superintendent Yamoah emphasised that both vehicles were badly damaged and were cleared from the road to ensure safety.
