Accra, March 20, GNA - The Konkomba Youth Association (KOYA) has urged the stakeholders in the peace building process to end the Konkomba-Chokosi conflict to cooperate to ensure sustainable peace in the Chereponi District in the North East Region.
Additionally, the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), humanitarian organisations and development partners, as well as Konkombas and Chokosis in Ghana and abroad, should join hands to offer humanitarian and other services to mitigate the suffering of the people.
Speaking at a media conference, on Wednesday, Mr Isaac Phoyon, the Spokesperson for Accra Branch of KOYA, said support from both sides would ensure that all those who had lost their property in the current conflict and were starving; would receive help to engender peaceful co-existence.
He said women and children were the ones mostly affected by the conflict, hence soliciting for support was the best thing to be done as that would improve their living conditions and also give hope to them.
Mr Phoyon said: “We are peace loving, hardworking people and are willing to agree to all security standards that will guarantee their protection and co-existence”.
He called on the Government to manage the conflict to bring about peace and also supply the victims with foodstuffs and other essentials that would aid their living.
He advised warring parties to give peace a chance as that was the only way the community could effectively fight common enemies such as diseases, poverty, illiteracy and underdevelopment.
A combined team of military and police personnel have been deployed to keep the peace following renewed violent clashes last week between the two sides in the Chereponi District of the North East Region.
Two people were reported killed, with 40 houses torched.
Eight persons have been arrested in connection with the attacks, according to the Police.
