Accra, March 21, GNA - Richard O. Commey, reigning International Boxing Federation (IBF) Lightweight Champion, has been cleared by his medical team and he is set to make his first title defence.
Commey suffered a hand injury in his impressive display against Russia's Isa Chaniev back in February where he annexed the vacant IBF Lightweight title.
Commey in a post on social media said, ''Great news, I saw the hand specialist this morning and he has given me the all clear, so I can’t wait to get to the USA and start training for my first title defence.''
Commey is likely to fight in May but certainly not a unification bout against Vasiliy Lomachenko, who is scheduled to fight Anthony Crolla next month.
Commey is Ghana's ninth world champion and was recently honoured by President of Ghana, Nana Akuffo Addo for making Ghana proud with his flawless display in the USA.
