Tamale, March 25, GNA – Traditional leaders have been called upon to support government to win the fight against corruption to enhance socio-economic development.
Mr Mac Mathew Chancellor, the Tamale Metropolitan Director of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) said it was part of the duties of Traditional leaders and the citizens to hold their duty bearers accountable to ensure transparency.
He made the call during a sensitisation programme in Tamale as part of the second phase of the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme (ARAP II) campaign to promote good governance to end corruption.
The event, which was organised by NCCE with support from the European Union (EU), was to create public responsiveness to hold duty bearers accountable for their obligation.
He advised citizens to be obedient to the rule of law to end corruption, promote good governance and empower the citizens to fight corruption to enhance the economic growth.
Alhaji Abdul Razak Saani, the Northern Regional Director of the NCCE said any act of corruption should be considered as the misuse of the entrusted powers assigned to duty bearers for their private gains which needed to be addressed
He advised the public to report any corruption activities to the authorities in charge to take necessary action.
