Diabene (WR), March 25, GNA – The Sekondi/Takoradi Metropolitan Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) has so far engaged 1, 741 individuals drawn from 31 identifiable groups in the quest to control and end corrupt practices in the country.
Last year, the metro carried out 86 of such engagements on the National Anti-Corruption Action Plan, Legal regimes on Anti-Corruption and the role of the citizenry and the various state institutions in the fight against corruption.
Mr Lan Kwame Tugbenu, the Metro Director of the NCCE at one of such engagements at Diabenekrom a community in the Essikado/Ketan Constituency said promoting good governance in Ghana by reducing and improving accountability and compliance with the rule of law was critical in accelerating development.
He said the Commission in collaboration with relevant stakeholders had undertaken various sensitisation engagements with the citizenry under the Accountability, Rule of Law and Anti-Corruption Programme to deepen understanding on corruption, its forms, negative effects and linkages with human rights.
To consolidate the gains, platform for public discourse which involved the citizenry and duty bearers-Social Auditing was established to contribute to collective assessment of developmental policies and projects.
Mr Bismark Ackon, the Regional Director of CHRAJ stressed the need for Ghanaians to stop bribery and embezzlements, which only enriched the individual to the detriment of the state’s development.
He said the CHRAJ was developing guidelines for the various MMDAs as an action plan in the fight as against corruption.
Chief Inspector Harlet Dovi, of the Central Police Station in Takoradi encouraged the community to beware of personal security and report strangers to community leaders as early warning signs.
The Diabene community is bedevilled with both human security and social amenity challenges.
The community lacks good roads, market, place of convenience, street lights and has in recent times become notorious for human security issue in terms of the three kidnapped girls.
Mr Isaac Aidoo, Senior Planning Officer of the STMA however assured the community of the assembly’s commitment to improve on their livelihoods.
Nana Diabene V, the Chief of the Area while expressing gratitude for the education called on the government to fix the road networks in the area to avert the rate of respiratory diseases in the area.
