Abokobi (GAR), March 25, GNA - The Presbyterian Church of Ghana is to embark on health projects to complement government’s efforts of providing quality and affordable healthcare for all Ghanaians.
The projects are: one congregation one health post; one district one clinic; one presbytery one hospital; and a national medical centre.
The Right Reverend Professor Joseph Obiri Yeboah Mantey, Moderator of the Church, said this at the opening of the 62nd National Presbyters Conference of the church at Abokobi in the Ga East municipality of the Greater Accra Region.
The four-day conference is being held under the theme: ‘Go and Make Disciples of All Nations—The Presbyter at the Forefront’.
Rt. Rev. Mantey said the church would create more funds which would include Mission, Land Administration, Tertiary Institution as well as Projects and when approved, these would help the church to undertake more projects including the building of a Presbyterian Lay Training Centre at Tamale which would house a museum.
He said the church had been able to build 2,400 basic schools, 30 senior high schools three vocational centres, 55 health institutions and seven agricultural stations, adding that a number of projects would be undertaken in the Abokobi municipality.
Rt. Rev. Mantey urged the presbyters to act as agents of peace to promote the wellbeing of the members of the church.
He urged them to refrain from all forms of negative tendencies which may bring the name of the clergy into disrepute.
Mr Thomas Bosu-Adekpo, the National President, said the year under review has been a very busy and challenging, however, ‘We have been able to achieve a lot especially in the area of reorganization and the revival of dormant presbyters’.
He urged the participants to make themselves ready to listen, obey and take the word of God to the people.
Mr Bosu-Adekpo said as social media has come to stay and its attendant social vices ‘we as church leaders, parents and guardians need to bring up and direct our children on the right path’.
The National President said one event fuelling many of these vices in the country is the celebration of the Valentine’s Day in which love has been turned into lust.
‘As a presbyter, we have a duty to grow our youth in the church on the path of Christ. Let us consciously organise education programmes especially for the youth on such days where apart from education they can socialize and have a lot of fun in the Christian way instead of patronizing beaches and night clubs’, he added.
