Winneba (C/R) April 22, GNA - It is time the country allowed the security apparatus and systems to work to curb insecurity in the country, Right Reverend Paa Solomon Grant-Essilfie, fifth Bishop of the Winneba Diocese of the Methodist Church, Ghana has reiterated.
The Bishop believed that insecurity in the country would be curtailed, if the state owned Security Systems were allowed to execute their core mandate to ensure harmony and peace in the country.
In an interview with the media on the sidelines of the 58th Synod of the Winneba Methodist Diocese held at the Ebenezer Cathedral at Winneba, on the theme “Go and Make Disciples of all Nations: Intensifying Our Teaching Ministry towards Disciple Making” he emphasised the need for the country to allow its institutions to work.
“We do not need vigilantism, the security systems in place must protect the citizens” he indicated, adding that the nation has a standing Army, Police and other accredited Security agencies which should be able to protect the citizens.
He stated that even though everybody needed God’s divine protection, physical security measures were equally important to ensure peace and tranquillity at all times for people to go about their normal duties with confidence.
Bishop Grant-Essilfie said there was enough security personnel in place to protect the citizens than vigilantes and urged all politicians to stop using such groups to stall chaos and conflicts in the country.
Earlier in an address to the Synod, he expressed his gratitude and sincere thanks especially to the past Bishops and Lay Stalwarts for their prayers, words of encouragement and immense support given to him to begin his tenure of office.
He said, per their mandate as Minsters and leaders in God’s vineyard, they were duty bound to be faithful and work to fill God's Kingdom.
The Bishop urged Christians to trust the lord in all their endeavours saying “if you don’t go through challenges, then you cannot be a hero and will never have a testimony” adding “He who has called us is faithful, let’s trust him to the latter”.
He assured all that God was a covenant keeping and dependable God who will never leave them.
