Kumasi, June 17, GNA - The Very Reverend Samuel Kwaku Opoku, Superintendent Minister in-charge of the Bantama Circuit of Methodist Church Ghana (MCG), has implored fathers to always be committed to their parental responsibilities.
"We cannot build a stronger nation with broken homes," he said, and asked all fathers to show keen interest in the proper upbringing of their children.
"At a time when the world is grappling with issues bothering on morality such as corruption, disrespect for authority and indiscipline in all its forms, it is expected of fathers to mentor their wards positively in order to groom them to becoming responsible citizens," the Minister observed.
Very Rev. Opoku was addressing a forum in Kumasi, organized by the MCG to mark this year's 'Fathers' Day' celebration.
"The Father and Nation Building", was the theme, and the event targeted members of the Association of Methodist Men's Fellowships.
The participants were taken through topics ranging from the role of fathers in the spiritual and physical development of the child to the contemporary challenges in child-upbringing.
Very Rev. Opoku indicated that fathers who shirked their parental responsibilities were not only doing harm to the child, but the entire society.
For that reason, the church should continually engage fathers with the intent of giving them orientation on the repercussions of their actions should they fail to be responsive to their parental duties.
Mrs. Comfort Adusi Poku Fofie, a Gender Coordinator of the Bantama Circuit of the MCG, organizers of the programme, assured that more of such events would be held in the future for the benefit of the society.
